Yui "Cherry" Sakura communicates best through the haiku he shares online, though hardly anyone notices. As he prepares to move with his family in August, he spends the summer working part-time at a welfare center. At the same time, Yuki "Smile" Hoshino, an aspiring influencer who wants to make people happy, hides her own smile behind a disposable mask-self-conscious about the braces on her prominent front teeth. When a chance meeting brings Smile to the same facility as Cherry, they end up helping an elderly man named Fujiyama search for an old vinyl record. His memories are fading, and he longs to hear it one last time, but all he can recall is the record sleeve and the word "yamazakura." With little to go on, Cherry and Smile set out to find it under the sweltering summer sun.
