The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes

Kaoru Touno's family is crumbling. After losing a sibling and his parents' divorce, home no longer feels like a safe place. During a bitter argument with his father, Kaoru storms out and stumbles upon a strange tunnel that draws him inside. Disoriented by what he sees, he hurries back toward the exit, grabbing a bird along the way-one that looks exactly like his dead pet. When he steps outside, Kaoru is shocked to learn that a full week has passed, even though only minutes had gone by inside the tunnel. The unsettling experience reminds him of the urban legend about the "Urashima Tunnel"-a place said to grant wishes in exchange for pieces of a person's life. Seeing his pet bird alive again makes him wonder if the tunnel could somehow mend his broken life. But when he goes back to investigate, Kaoru discovers that Anzu Hanashiro, a new transfer student in his class, has followed him. She knows the rumors too and asks for his help with an experiment-because she also has a wish only the tunnel can fulfill.
