As Tokyo grows into one of Japan's largest cities, the cost of progress becomes clear-nature and wildlife lose ground to urban sprawl. Among those affected are the "Tanuki," magical shape-shifting creatures who call the forests home. Now, their land is under threat as the city's expansion creeps closer. With their habitat shrinking and tensions rising between rival Tanuki factions, the elder Oroku steps forward. He urges them to unite, hoping their combined strength-and their shapeshifting tricks-might be enough to frighten away the human developers and save their home for future generations. But their first efforts at resistance quickly prove harder than expected. Faced with humanity's relentless advance, the Tanuki must decide: can they stand together to protect their forest, or will anger and despair tear them apart in a hopeless fight against progress?
