In a futuristic Japan, androids are commonplace, but treating them as equals is discouraged. Society views excessive trust in robots with suspicion, mocking those who do as "dori-kei"-android addicts. High schooler Rikuo Sakisaka grows uneasy when his household android, Sammy, starts leaving the house without permission. Checking her logs, he finds a strange message: "Are you enjoying the time of EVE?" With his friend Masakazu Masaki, Rikuo follows Sammy to a cafe called Time of Eve, where discrimination between humans and robots is forbidden. There, he discovers a space where the two coexist indistinguishably. The cafe’s patrons-from the lively Akiko to a malfunctioning android-each have their own struggles. As Rikuo searches for answers about Sammy’s behavior, he starts doubting the fear that keeps humans from seeing androids as anything more than tools.
