Midori

In 1920s Tokyo, twelve-year-old Midori lives in poverty, struggling to sell camellias in the slums. When a kind-seeming stranger offers help, she accepts-only to realize too late that he has tricked her into joining Aka Neko Za, a grotesque traveling circus filled with crude and disfigured performers. For Midori, life in the circus feels like hell. She endures constant ridicule and abuse while tending to the troupe's needs. Just as despair sets in, the illusionist Wonder Masamitsu arrives. Drawn to Midori’s purity, he becomes her protector, and their bond deepens into love. Yet even as she finds solace, darker days await Midori and the circus’s outcast performers.
