The Dog of Flanders

Nello Daas is a talented young artist living in a small village near Antwerp, Belgium. To support himself and his sick grandfather, he sells milk in the city's market. His closest friend, Alois Cogez, is the daughter of his harsh landlord, who despises Nello for being poor and thinks he’s a bad influence. To keep them apart, Alois’ father sends her away to a school in Antwerp. While making his usual market deliveries, Nello learns about an art contest honoring the famed Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens-an artist he deeply admires. The prize includes money and a chance to study art in the same city where Alois now lives. Determined to win, Nello starts planning his masterpiece, but life throws one obstacle after another in his way. Through it all, he has the unwavering loyalty of his dog, Patrasche, whom he rescued from an abusive owner. No matter how difficult things get, Patrasche stays by his side. "Flanders no Inu" retells the classic tale of a kindhearted boy and his devoted dog as they face life’s challenges together until the very end.
