Akira

Japan, 1988. A young boy with psychic abilities triggers a devastating explosion in Tokyo, setting off the chain of events that sparks World War III. To stop further catastrophe, he is captured and disappears from public knowledge. Decades later, in 2019, the rebuilt city of Neo-Tokyo stands in its place-a lawless zone plagued by gang wars and anti-government unrest. Shoutarou Kaneda leads "the Capsules," a rebellious gang of motorcycle-riding misfits locked in a bitter rivalry with "the Clowns." During a clash between the gangs, Shoutarou’s closest friend, Tetsuo Shima, collides with a runaway esper-a psychic fugitive who has broken free from government custody. The encounter awakens strange powers in Tetsuo, drawing the attention of authorities desperate to contain him. Fearing history may repeat itself, they race to lock him away before his growing abilities spiral out of control, threatening to reduce Neo-Tokyo to ruins once more.
