Grave of the Fireflies

In 1945, as World War II nears its end, Japan suffers under relentless American bombings that leave its cities in ruins. "Hotaru no Haka," or "Grave of the Fireflies," follows Seita and his younger sister Setsuko, two children whose lives are torn apart by the war. They lose their mother, their father, their home, and any hope for a future-all casualties of the conflict. Left alone with nowhere to go, Seita and Setsuko wander the countryside, struggling against hunger and sickness. The adults they meet offer little help, their indifference showing how desperation can harden even the gentlest hearts. Still, the siblings cling to their innocence and resilience, refusing to surrender quickly to the bleak fate closing in around them.
