Franz Kafka's a Country Doctor

A country doctor, overwhelmed and inept, recounts a frantic nighttime call to treat a sick boy. The journey quickly turns bizarre when ghostly horses whisk him away in an instant. Distracted by his own frustrations and resentment toward the villagers he serves, the doctor misses the boy's grotesque, deadly injury. The locals mock him, "always expecting the impossible from the doctor," and he is left to make a hopeless journey home, stripped of everything.
