Human Lost

Fifty years after a devastating war that nearly destroyed Japan, a centralized network called Sound Health Everlasting Long Life (SHELL) has become the foundation of society. Advanced nanomachine research ensures people live disease-free lives-but in exchange, they must work 19 hours a day. When someone disconnects from SHELL, an extremely rare event known as "Human Lost" occurs, turning them into monstrous creatures called "Lost." These must be eliminated to prevent society's collapse. Despite the absence of pain and death, antisocial behavior grows more common. Factory worker Takeichi plans to storm the Ministry of Interior to protest his brutal living conditions, convincing his friend, struggling painter Youzou Ooba, to join him. When their doomed protest fails, Takeichi is left fatally wounded and mutates into a Lost, with Youzou transforming soon after. During the chaos, Yoshiko Hiiragi, a member of the dispatch team tasked with eliminating Lost, detects Youzou and realizes he has a unique ability-he can revert to human form. As the third known survivor of the Human Lost phenomenon, Youzou teams up with Yoshiko to investigate the recent surge in transformations, which now threatens humanity's last hope for survival.
