On her 16th birthday, orphan Himari Momochi learns her late parents secretly left her a house-their only gift to her. Eager to uncover her family’s past, she visits the rumored haunted home, only to find three young men already living there: Aoi Nanamori, who calls himself the house’s guardian, and his two familiars, Yukari and Ise. Though they let her stay the night, they insist she leave by morning to avoid the dangerous ayakashi, wandering spirits that prey on humans. But Himari isn’t harmed by the spirits, and she refuses to abandon the house. When she learns Aoi became guardian by accident and is now trapped there, cut off from the outside world, she’s more determined than ever to stay. Moved by his plight, she vows to free him from his lonely fate and persuades the three protectors to let her move in as their landlady. Yet the shadowy Kasha, who keeps sending hostile ayakashi to the house, appears to have sinister intentions for Aoi’s future.
