Death Note

The human world is plagued by brutal murders, petty crimes, and meaningless violence. Meanwhile, the death gods' realm is a dull, monotonous gambling den. Light Yagami, a brilliant 17-year-old Japanese student, and Ryuk, a sadistic death god, both agree-their worlds are corrupt. For his own entertainment, Ryuk drops his Death Note into the human world. Light finds it and dismisses the first rule as absurd: "The human whose name is written in this note shall die." Yet curiosity gets the better of him, and when he writes a criminal's name as a test, the notebook delivers his first chilling kill. Realizing the godlike power now in his grasp, Light-under the alias "Kira"-begins purging the world of evil according to his own twisted justice. But master detective L is already tracking him down.
