In 2046, humanity has grown increasingly distrustful of robots, making life dangerous for the latest models known as "seconds." Detective Ross Sylibus lives in this world, still reeling from the death of his partner at the hands of a robot. Seeking a fresh start, he transfers to Mars-only to stumble into a murder case the moment he arrives. A country singer on his flight is killed, and as he steps off the plane, he witnesses the chaotic aftermath while meeting his new partner, Armitage, a tough and abrasive cop. Soon, more women are murdered, and the investigation uncovers a disturbing secret: there’s a hidden line of robots called "thirds," and someone is systematically hunting them down. As missing Thirds pile up, Armitage’s relentless pursuit of the killer leads her to reveal her own shocking truth-she is a Third herself.
