Can love stay the same when computers become indistinguishable from humans? Hideki Motosuwa is a hardworking student from the countryside struggling to afford college, let alone the latest trend-Persocoms, human-like personal computers. One night, he stumbles upon an abandoned Persocom and takes her home. When he activates her, she seems broken, only able to say one word: "Chii," which becomes her name. Unlike other Persocoms, Chii can't download information, so Hideki decides to teach her about the world himself while studying for his exams. With the help of his friends, Hideki begins to uncover the truth about Chii-she might be a "Chobit," a rumored type of Persocom with human emotions, thoughts, and the capacity to love. But can a relationship between a human and a Persocom truly work?
