Hideki Motosuwa is a hardworking student from the countryside struggling to afford college, let alone the latest trend-Persocoms, human-like personal computers. One night, he stumbles upon an abandoned Persocom and takes her home. When he activates her, she seems broken, only able to say one word: "Chii," which becomes her name. With the help of his friends, Hideki begins to uncover the truth about Chii-she might be a "Chobit," a rumored type of Persocom with human emotions, thoughts, and the capacity to love. But can a relationship between a human and a Persocom truly work?
