A documentary about Japan’s Elephant Trains. During World War II, many zoos killed their dangerous animals-including elephants-to prevent them from escaping if Allied bombings destroyed their enclosures. After the war, only two elephants remained in Japan, both at Higashiyama Zoo in Nagoya. To let children see them, special trains called Elephant Trains were set up to bring kids from across the country to the zoo.
