In the Kingdom of Yamauchi, people can transform into three-legged crows called yatagarasu. While the men focus on governing, the women vie for the attention of Wakamiya, the crown prince chosen to serve as the Kinu-the Mountain God's attendant. Among the four young women who arrive at court to compete is Asebi, whose kindness and innocence set her apart from the others. Meanwhile, Wakamiya struggles to secure his position within the clan. Despite being born as a concubine's second son, the royal priests selected him over his older brother to be the Kinu, deepening the rift between the siblings and angering his stepmother. When Yukiya, the teenage son of a village chief, is sent to the palace as Wakamiya's new attendant, the prince is far from happy. But Yukiya's arrival is no accident-there's more to his presence at court than meets the eye.
