A kind but poor man saves an old man who fell from a log bridge. In gratitude, the forest spirits reward him with a "Mortar of Treasures," a magical item that can produce anything its owner wishes. The man uses it to become the wealthiest in his village. However, his selfish brother steals the mortar, eager to hoard its riches for himself. He flees by boat to a remote island, but along the way, he foolishly asks the mortar for salt-then can’t make it stop. The boat eventually sinks under the endless salt, dragging the mortar to the ocean floor, where it continues to pour out salt even now.
