In a distant world, humans and demi-humans are locked in a bitter struggle for survival, both against each other and among their own kind. Among them are the guardian bearers-chosen individuals blessed by a Land God, marked by a sacred crest and granted extraordinary spiritual power. These guardians stand above ordinary people, both in strength and status. Kai, a low-ranking soldier from the human village of Lag, dreams of gaining power to change his life. Strange memories from another land hint at a way to achieve this, but fear of the consequences keeps him from using these abilities openly. When a bizarre twist of fate grants him the powers of a guardian bearer, his excitement is short-lived-he soon realizes that in a world of hidden dangers and watchful enemies, he must wield his new gifts carefully.
