Mitsuha Yamano's life has hit rock bottom. After failing to get into her dream university and losing her family in an accident, she nearly dies when a weak guardrail gives way, sending her tumbling off a cliff. But by sheer stubborn refusal to give up, she somehow ends up in another world instead. Stranded in this unfamiliar place, Mitsuha wanders for days until exhaustion overtakes her. A young girl named Colette finds and saves her. Soon after, Mitsuha faces death again, and her unyielding determination catches the attention of a cosmic deity. The being tells her she now has two gifts: rapid healing and the power to travel between worlds whenever she chooses. With this revelation, Mitsuha starts planning how to make the most of her ability. She figures she can buy goods on Earth, sell them in the other world for profit, and eventually save eighty thousand gold coins-enough to retire in peace.
