Long ago, Zeus, the supreme god, established a three-tier hierarchy of angels-top, middle, and lower-though they were meant to be equal. He also chose six angels as Saint Beasts to govern Earth's animals: Go, the seiyu; Shin, the genbu; Rei, the suzaku; Guy, the byakko; Yuda, the kirin; and Ruka, the hooh. However, Kira, the shooting star, and Maya, the fuga, refused to take part in the selection and fled to Earth. The six angels carried out their duties faithfully, but as Zeus grew more tyrannical, they began to doubt his rule.
