At the edge of the world lies the Kingdom of Ozmargo, a land ruled by a nameless, terrifying king and populated by all manner of beasts. A century-long war with the neighboring human kingdom ended with a grim peace treaty: each year, a human sacrifice must be offered to the king to be devoured on the night of revelation. Sariphi is the 99th sacrifice-a seemingly fragile girl with no fear of the king and no home or family to return to, even if she escaped her fate. Curious about her boldness, the king allows her to wander the palace, much to the frustration of his advisor, Anubis. As the king and Sariphi slowly grow closer, the night of revelation draws near. When the day arrives, it sets off a chain of events that will alter the destinies of both Sariphi and the king-and reshape their worlds forever.
