Kakeru Kurahara, once the star runner of Sendai Josei High School, gets caught shoplifting and flees from a convenience store. After escaping his pursuer, he bumps into Haiji Kiyose, a fellow student at his university. Haiji, impressed by Kakeru’s speed, talks him into moving into Chikusei-sou-a shabby apartment where Haiji lives with eight other students. With no other options after losing his entire deposit at a mahjong parlor, Kakeru agrees, though hesitantly. But at Kakeru’s welcome party, Haiji drops a bombshell: Chikusei-sou is secretly the dorm for Kansei University’s Track Club. His real plan? To compete in the Hakone Ekiden, Japan’s most prestigious university marathon relay race. The catch? Aside from Haiji and Kakeru, the rest of the residents are total beginners-and none of them care about Haiji’s far-fetched dream. With only months left before the deadline, can Haiji, a fourth-year student, rally this reluctant group and turn his impossible goal into reality?
