College student Haruko Mihashi spends her time volunteering as an at-home nurse for the elderly. When one of her patients, Kijuro Takazawa, is abruptly transferred to become the first person placed in a Z-001 bed, she grows uneasy. Though the bed’s advanced technology can handle all a patient’s physical needs, it lacks the warmth of human care. Haruko’s concern deepens when she receives a desperate digital plea for help. Convinced something is wrong, she and her friends break into Takazawa’s room-only to find the Z-001’s computer is far more capable, and more unsettling, than they ever suspected.
