Souta Tawara leaves the busy streets of Tokyo and returns to his quiet hometown in Kagawa. His parents are gone, but stepping into his old family udon restaurant brings back memories of when they were all together. As he wanders through the familiar space, lost in thought, he stumbles upon a dirty young boy asleep inside. Souta doesn’t think much of it at first and simply offers the boy food and clean clothes. But then, something unbelievable happens-the boy grows furry ears and a tail! Souta realizes this isn’t an ordinary child but a shapeshifting tanuki, a creature said to have lived in Kagawa for generations. Feeling sorry for the lonely boy, Souta takes him in and names him Poko. "Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari" tells the story of Souta and Poko’s growing bond. As they share their days together, Souta begins to reflect on his own childhood, the home he abandoned for the city, and the complicated relationship he once had with his father.
