Miko Kurono is a small-time streamer known as "Necronomico," playing games for her modest audience. For the past three months, she’s been covering the hospital expenses of her close friend Mayu Mayusaka, who-along with other well-known streamers-suddenly fell into an unexplained coma. Strapped for cash, Miko joins a highly confidential beta test for an advanced VR game. After finishing the first level, she and six other streamers encounter the Old Ones-ancient, malevolent gods plotting to reclaim Earth but currently confined within the virtual world. Miko is horrified to learn that Cthulhu, one of the gods, has stolen Mayu’s appearance and caused her coma. Now trapped in the Old Ones' sick contest, the Cosmic Horror Show, Miko realizes that if all players are eliminated, humanity will be doomed. But with the promise of a single wish for the winner, she resolves to play through the game and rescue Mayu.
