Private detective Shunsaku Ban and his nephew Kenichi leave Japan for Metropolis, a bustling high-tech city where robots face harsh persecution and a powerful dictator is gaining control. They’re searching for Dr. Laughton, a scientist accused of trafficking human organs, who is believed to be hiding there. Unknown to anyone, Dr. Laughton has secretly created Tima, an advanced female android, for Metropolis’ most powerful figure, Duke Red. After a sudden disaster destroys Dr. Laughton’s lab, Shunsaku and Kenichi are separated while searching for survivors. Kenichi finds Tima, confused and lost, and shields her from Duke Red’s violent foster son, Rock, who hunts the android relentlessly. Not realizing Tima isn’t human, Kenichi treats her as a friend. Meanwhile, Shunsaku works to find his nephew and uncovers sinister plots unfolding in the city-including Kenichi’s unexpected connection to Duke Red’s plans for power.
