Mai Mai Miracle

The story takes place in 1955 in Kokuga, a town in Hofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. A thousand years ago, this area was the ancient capital of Suo no Kuni, and remnants of the Heian Period (794-1185) linger in ruins and old place names. Shinko, the main character, is a third-grader from a long-established local family. She’s a playful girl who loves running through the fields and has a distinctive curl on her forehead-which she calls her "Mai Mai." But her favorite pastime is daydreaming about life a thousand years ago, losing herself in fantasies of the Heian era. When Kiiko, a new student from Tokyo, joins Shinko’s class, she struggles to adjust to the small town. Slowly, though, she and Shinko grow closer. Before long, the two find themselves caught up in a mysterious event tied to the distant past...?
