In 19th-century France, Fantine, a single mother barely scraping by, entrusts her three-year-old daughter Cosette to the Thénardiers, a couple she recently met. But instead of care, Cosette faces cruelty and exploitation, forced into labor while clinging to the hope of reuniting with her mother. One evening, as Cosette runs an errand for the Thénardiers, she meets Jean Valjean, a kind stranger. After speaking with her, he recognizes in her the very purpose he’s been searching for and takes her away from her abusive guardians. Together, they escape to a nearby town, where Cosette begins a new life under Jean’s protection. With Jean’s support, Cosette vows to use her freedom to help others. She dreams of healing her country, determined to prevent anyone from enduring the hardships she faced. Though the scars of the French Revolution linger and challenges lie ahead, this hopeful young woman refuses to give up until France is free from poverty and despair.
