On his way home, a young man spots a kappa in a pet shop window and impulsively buys it. He names the creature Kaatan and brings it home, but since he’s never cared for a kappa before, he relies on a guidebook about raising and training them. The book makes it sound straightforward, offering plenty of advice on how to raise a clever, well-behaved kappa. In reality, though, putting those methods into practice proves far more difficult. Kaatan sometimes grasps what he’s taught, but more often forgets or simply isn’t interested in learning. Still, the young man refuses to give up, patiently continuing his efforts-even if they might be in vain-to turn Kaatan into a pet he can truly be proud of.
