Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress

After her grandfather’s passing, Hamaji Ooyama lives alone on a remote mountain, surviving by hunting and tending to herself. One day, her brother-a samurai hopeful in Edo-sends her a letter, urging her to leave her isolation and join him in the city. But when she arrives, she’s greeted by a gruesome sight: the severed heads of six dogs, displayed publicly. These belong to the Fuse, eight half-human, half-dog creatures who have been wreaking havoc on Edo. After helping a strange man flee from attackers, Hamaji reaches her brother’s home, where he asks her to aid him in hunting down the last two Fuse and claiming the Shogunate’s bounty. The task won’t be easy-the Fuse can blend into human society almost undetected. And the man Hamaji just rescued? He bore the unmistakable signs of being one of them.
