After a disastrous alchemy experiment, brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric find their lives shattered. Defying the taboo against human transmutation, they tried to resurrect their late mother, only to pay a terrible price: Alphonse’s body was destroyed, while Edward lost a leg and later gave up an arm to bind his brother’s soul to a suit of armor. Their neighbor Pinako Rockbell and her granddaughter Winry-a skilled bio-mechanical engineer-take them in. Winry crafts advanced prosthetics, or "automail," for Edward using durable metal designed for combat armor. Once recovered, the brothers embark on a quest to reclaim their original bodies, seeking the legendary Philosopher’s Stone-a gem said to bypass alchemy’s fundamental rule of Equivalent Exchange. As Edward rises to fame as the "Fullmetal" alchemist, their search pulls them into a dangerous conspiracy with world-shaking consequences.
