For twenty years, Beryl Gardenant has run his father’s sword-fighting dojo in a quiet village, teaching countless students. Many have gone on to become exceptional swordsmen, but Beryl remains modest, calling himself just an old man. His former pupils disagree-including Allucia Citrus, who trained under him over a decade ago and now leads the Royal Order of Knights. Determined to show her teacher’s true skill, Allucia recommends him to her superiors, and by imperial decree, Beryl is appointed as a special instructor for the Order. She delivers the news herself, though Beryl doesn’t suspect her hidden intentions. With his aging parents urging him on, he reluctantly agrees and moves to the capital. There, he reunites with other former students, like Surena Lysandra, now a top-tier adventurer, and Ficelle Harbeller, a respected figure in the Magic Corps. Soon, whispers spread: no warrior, no matter how strong, can defeat the "old man" from the countryside.
