Sena Kobayakawa, a shy and small-framed student at Deimon High, is an easy target for bullies. But years of running errands have made him quick on his feet and skilled at dodging crowds. When Youichi Hiruma, the sharp-witted captain of the Deimon Devil Bats football team, sees Sena's speed, he strong-arms the timid boy into joining. To keep Sena's identity hidden from rival teams, Hiruma makes him wear a helmet with a dark visor, disguising him as "Eyeshield 21"-a supposedly legendary running back from Notre Dame College in the U.S., known for his lightning-fast speed. Though Sena has spent his life running from problems, his talent might now make him the Devil Bats' secret weapon. Along the way, he starts gaining confidence and forming meaningful friendships with his teammates.
