Capeta - S01

After losing his mother as a child, elementary schooler Capeta Taira learns to be self-reliant to spare his overworked father any extra worry. His dad labors long hours at a paving company to scrape by, leaving Capeta to shoulder household chores and put on a brave face-though inside, he’s just a lonely kid with a hard life. School offers little respite, as the bully Nobu Andou makes things worse despite the kindness of his classmate Monami Suzuki. One day, Capeta’s father stumbles upon young racers speeding around in go-karts and gets an idea. Gathering discarded parts from the track, he secretly starts building something for his son. Curious, Capeta and Monami sneak into his workplace and are stunned to find a makeshift go-kart bearing Capeta’s name-rusty, incomplete, and missing an engine, but unmistakably his. Unable to wait, Capeta takes the kart out in the pouring rain, careening recklessly down a wet road. What should have been a near-disaster instead sparks an exhilarating rush. Suddenly, life isn’t so dull anymore-his heart races with a newfound passion as he dives headfirst into the world of karting.
