High school junior Kuroki starts the new semester seated next to Mai Chihara, the girl everyone talks about. With her gothic style, black hair, and piercing gaze, Chihara has a reputation as a "landmine" girl-someone unpredictable, with a dark, intense persona. But when Kuroki accidentally catches her attention, he realizes she’s not as unstable as the rumors suggest. Behind her intimidating exterior lies a surprisingly kind, if slightly eccentric, girl. As Kuroki tentatively gets to know her, he wonders: Is there more to Chihara than her ominous reputation? Or is her gothic aesthetic hiding something deeper-and potentially dangerous?
