A Jewish Girl in Shanghai

The story takes place mostly in and around the Shanghai Ghetto during World War II, under Japanese occupation. It follows three children: Rina and her little brother Mishalli, Jewish refugees who fled Europe without their parents, and A-Gen, a local Chinese boy who befriends them and helps them survive. As the kids bond and go on small adventures, they also struggle against the occupying Japanese forces and their Nazi allies. Meanwhile, the Second Sino-Japanese War rages in the background, and Rina and Mishalli anxiously wonder what has become of their parents back in Europe.
