After his father dies and English raiders destroy his village, Einar hopes to live quietly with his family on their rebuilt farm. But when Danish invaders attack again, they burn his home and kill his loved ones right before his eyes. Taken captive, Einar is brought to Denmark as a slave. Holding onto his mother’s last words for strength, he is bought by Ketil, a fair slave owner who offers him a chance at freedom in exchange for labor. There, Einar meets Thorfinn, a broken and withdrawn fellow slave. Together, they work the fields, bound by their shared goal of earning their freedom. But their past mistakes and present struggles weigh heavily on them. In a harsh and unfair world, they press forward, searching for some small measure of hope, redemption, and peace.
