Tistou the Green Thumb

When eight-year-old Tistou is sent home from school for constantly falling asleep in class, his father decides his education should come from real-world experiences-starting in the garden. With the help of the gardener, Mr. Moustache, Tistou discovers an extraordinary ability-his "green thumbs." Every plant he touches flourishes into something beautiful. His next lesson is with Mr. Turnbull, the strict manager of his father's weapons factory, who takes him into town to teach him about "order." Over the following days, Tistou explores the prison, the slums, and the hospital, using his newfound gift to try and make the world a better place. But when he learns about war and visits his father's factory, he realizes they supply weapons to both sides of the conflict.
