The Snow Queen

This story is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale. Gerda and Kai have been neighbors and close friends since they were little. Gerda is eleven, and Kai is twelve. They were happy children who played and worked together as kids do. But everything changed when the Snow Queen’s mirror shattered. The broken pieces scattered across the world, each filled with darkness. If a shard got into someone’s eye, it would freeze their heart. And that’s what happened to Kai-a shard pierced his eye, turning him cold toward everyone he once loved. One night, the Snow Queen arrived in her carriage and took Kai away to her ice palace at the very edge of the world. The people in their village assumed Kai had drowned in the frozen lake, but Gerda refused to believe it. She had dreamed of seeing him step into the carriage, and when a drunken man confessed he’d seen the same thing, Gerda began to wonder if her vision had been real. Determined, she gathers her belongings and sets out on a journey to find Kai and bring him home.
