Determined to uncover his origins and find his parents, Esteban leaves Spain. During his journey, he meets Zia, an Inca girl who was taken from her people years ago and wears an identical medallion. They are later joined by Tao, a young boy from the Galapagos, the last descendant of the lost Heva Empire, which is said to have built the Cities of Gold. Guided by Coyolite, the shining star on their medallions, the three children venture into the uncharted New World, hoping the path to the Cities of Gold will also lead them to their missing families.
