"Kin No Tori" is based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "The Golden Bird." When a golden apple is stolen from the King’s garden, he tasks his three sons with guarding the apples and uncovering the thief. The youngest son, Hansu, finds a feather from the golden bird responsible for the theft. The King then sends his sons to capture the bird, setting Hansu on his journey. The film was finished in 1984 but remained unreleased for three years before its theatrical debut.
