In the Usagiyama Shopping District, a quirky yet tight-knit group of shop owners forms a lively community. Tamako Kitashirakawa, a sweet but somewhat clumsy high school girl, comes from a family that runs a cozy mochi shop called Tama-ya. One day, she crosses paths with a talkative bird who claims to be royalty from a faraway kingdom. Introducing himself as Dera Mochimazzi, he explains he’s searching for a bride for his prince. Determined to complete his mission, Dera tags along with Tamako-only to become hopelessly addicted to mochi. His gluttony leaves him too heavy to fly home, so he settles in with Tamako’s family and quickly becomes the neighborhood’s favorite oddball mascot. Meanwhile, Tamako’s childhood friend Mochizou Ooji keeps his feelings for her a secret. Their fathers are bitter rivals in the mochi business, but will that rivalry keep Tamako and Mochizou apart? And with Dera now stuck in town, what will become of his royal quest to find the prince’s bride?
