The Scientific Boys Club, now fifty years old, decides to build a ship that sails to Mars using the "Ethereal Current"-a theory proposed by the wife of one member, which suggests the universe is filled with Ethereal energy. Riding this current, they journey to Mars to test an old theory about channels built by Martians, but find no signs of life. Decades later, when both theories have been dismissed as nonsense, a Mars expedition uncovers a stone marked with the words "Scientific Boys Club 1954."
