Sparkling Red Star

Based on the novel by celebrated author Li Xintian, "Sparkling Red Star" is an animated film that tells a touching and visually vibrant story of childhood set in 1930s China. Directed by Lam Chiu Yin, known for "Naked Ambition" and "Love on the Rocks", this marks a notable shift in tone as he follows the journey of a young boy in a turbulent era. Dongzi, a spirited village child, looks up to his father, a courageous Red Army soldier, and the local Red Guards who defend their home from a cruel landlord. When his father departs to join the Long March, he leaves Dongzi with a shining red star-a symbol of protection. Over the years, as Dongzi faces hardships and grows up amid the upheaval of war, the red star becomes a guiding light in his coming-of-age story.
