Descending Stories

Yotarou has reached the highest rank of rakugo performer, yet he still wrestles with finding his own voice. Torn between his mentor's strict traditions and the bold style of the late Sukeroku, his performances feel incomplete-missing a sense of self. Though audiences flock to his shows, rakugo itself is fading, with few carrying the art forward. Yakumo, seen as the last pillar keeping rakugo alive, grapples with aging. His skill remains unmatched, but he worries his time is running out. An old acquaintance reappears, deepening his unease. Meanwhile, Konatsu strives to raise her son alone, but Yotarou objects, insisting she marry him instead so he can become the boy’s father. In "Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen," Yotarou and Yakumo’s journey reaches its end as they confront their personal struggles while fighting to revive the dying art of rakugo.
