Legend of the Galactic Heroes Gaiden - S02

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Gaiden (1999) is the second of two OVAs adapting side stories from the Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu novels. It explores Yang Wen-li's early career in the Free Planets Alliance before the Battle of Astarte, alongside the continuing adventures of Reinhard von Müsel and Siegfried Kircheis in the Galactic Empire. *"Spiral Labyrinth"" After his celebrated evacuation of civilians from El Facil, Yang rises to prominence, receiving an unofficial double promotion and media attention. He documents his research into the "Year 730 Mafia," a tight-knit group of Alliance officers led by the legendary tactician Bruce Ashbey. When Ashbey's widow claims he was murdered rather than killed in battle, Yang delves into a politically explosive mystery. ""The Mutineer"" Reinhard and Kircheis are stationed aboard the destroyer Hameln II at Iserlohn Fortress. When the captain is badly injured and hands command to Reinhard, he must prove himself as a leader to the skeptical crew. ""The Duelist"" While stationed in the Imperial capital Odin, Reinhard learns of a mining rights dispute involving Dorothea von Schaffhausen, a friend of his sister Annerose. When Count Herxheimer challenges her family to a duel, Reinhard steps in as their champion. ""The Retriever"" After losing favor with the nobility, Count Herxheimer attempts to defect to the Free Planets Alliance, taking a stolen Seffle particle generator prototype with him. Reinhard is ordered to recover both the fugitive and the device, but with only the cruiser Hässliche Entlein at his disposal due to the mission's secrecy. ""The Third Battle of Tiamat"* To mark the 30th year of Kaiser Friedrich IV's reign, the Empire launches a major offensive against the Free Planets Alliance. When three Alliance fleets clash with the Imperial expeditionary force, Reinhard's decisive actions alter the course of the battle.
