Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House

Kiyo Nozuki and Sumire Herai grew up together, both dreaming of becoming maikos-apprentice geishas. When they join a maiko house, Kiyo is told she isn’t suited for the role and instead becomes the live-in cook. Sumire, however, embodies the ideal maiko and begins her training. Though disappointed, Kiyo stays cheerful, finding joy in cooking for the house and supporting everyone’s efforts with her meals.
