KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World

Yukito Urabe, convinced that the all-powerful god Mitama will save him, takes part in a ritual to succeed his father as the leader of a cult. When he drowns during the ceremony, his dying wish is to be reborn in a world free of gods and religion. He awakens in a strange new world with no trace of spirituality. There, he meets an eccentric girl named Aruaru, who welcomes him into her village. But his peaceful illusions about this society shatter when he witnesses a mass suicide and discovers the government's chilling policy: at any time, the state can command its citizens to die. Soon after, Aruaru and her sister are seized for execution. Yukito tries to save them but fails. In despair, he remembers his father's teachings and prays to Mitama for help. To his shock, a young girl descends from the sky, obliterating those who hurt his friends. She then reveals herself-she is Mitama.
