One hundred and seven years ago, a catastrophic event destroyed the Moon, scattering its remains into 81 quintillion tons of debris that still orbit Earth. Though advanced technology saved the planet, the disaster has largely faded from memory. When Haruka Amami, a teenage girl, auditions for the "Idolmaster Project," she believes she’s signing up to become a pop idol. Instead, she’s recruited into a secret academy run by the Mondenkind Agency, where she and other selected girls train to pilot iDOLs-sophisticated robots built to intercept falling fragments of the shattered Moon. But the Mondenkind Agency’s motives are far from noble. And as Haruka begins her training, she realizes the iDOLs might be more than machines. From the start, she senses strange emotions emanating from her assigned iDOL, Imber-as if it has a will of its own.
